About the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region

About the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region

The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region, Inc. (ELC) is a private not-for-profit organization that provides services to families, children, and childcare providers in the seven counties that comprise northern Florida’s Big Bend Region: Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla.

The ELC works collaboratively with families, their children, and local childcare providers to help prepare children for success in school and support families’ ability to work. Through effective parent education and professional development for childcare professionals, the ELC connects the home and school by sharing critical information and resources on child development and how to best support each child’s individual growth.

Family support services including tuition assistance programs, childcare information services, and community referrals that support each families’ success by connecting them to the information and resources they need. The ELC works with families to connect them to quality childcare options and support them in choosing a program that best meets their child’s needs.

The ELC helps at-risk and low-income working families by providing childcare tuition assistance through the School Readiness Program. The program is a state and federally funded childcare tuition assistance program that prepares children to become ready for school assists families in becoming financially self-sufficient and provides parents with information about child development and other topics of interest.

Law requires the ELC to determine eligibility partly on purpose for care (working, attending school, etc.), household income, and the number of people in the household. Click Here to learn more about the School Readiness Program.

Child Care Resource & Referral

Child Care Resource & Referral is a free service that provides information to families about choosing childcare, generates childcare referrals, and helps families understand their early care and education options to make an informed choice about their childcare. The referrals are computer-generated based on the needs expressed by a family and are not recommendations by the ELC.

Any local childcare program can be part of the Child Care Resource & Referral database, even if they choose not to contract with the ELC for participation in the School Readiness Program.
